This pages intends to document the low cost BigWheel minisumo, which is being built within the draft FormulaMiniSumo guide lines as one of several proofs of concept. Further detail and costing will be presented here as the project proceeds, it is hoped that this may help inspire other improved low cost builds.
Chassis The chassis has been constructed from Balsa Wood, a single sheet about 100mm wide x 9.5 thick and 900mm long was purchased but much less than 1/4 has gone into this build. Glue was left over from a furniture kit and joints are strengthen and held for glueing with some household pins. Other items appearing in the picture, two 75mm Polythene Wheels and economy motor (Vigor) from MUTR, fasteners etc. Cost to be confirmed.... Control Circuit This is being built up on a breadboard, with a Kicchip and an L293D motor controller. The circuit is pictured with two indication LEDs and a small daughter board for the down load circuit and reset button - this would work equally well for a PICaxe. A little more more has been completed for a rolling (sensorless) chassis.
Rolling chassis with IR Edge Detection, with the top view looking down in the major part of the breadboard circuit. (More detail later)
